Upcoming Events
Positive Soundscapes is running a conference track at the Institute of Acoustics 2008 Spring Conference taking place on the 10-11 April 2008 at the University of Reading. Click here for more information and to download the registration form.
Positive Soundscapes is planning to host a conference track at ICBEN 2008 (International Commission of the Biological Effects of Noise) (21-25 July 2008) in Connecticut, USA.
Positive Soundscapes is also hoping to host a conference track at Inter-Noise 2009. Inter-Noise 2007 was held in Intanbul and Rebecca Cain presented a paper based upon the Positive Soundscapes pilot study work.
Positive Soundscapes will culminate in an exhibition that will curate a number of distinct perspectives on the central concerns of this project, including: the Favourite Sounds of Manchester project; a sonification project where numerical and graphical data gathered in other areas of the project is reinterpreted as sound; the historical span of creative responses to the soundscape; and visual works depicting the acoustic environment that may provide alternatives to the established conventions of sound-mapping. The exhibition will not only have a gallery-based dimension, but also an innovative web presence aligned to the Soundscape Sequencer work. Venues are tbc, but include the Tate Modern and FutureSonic 2009.
Past Events
Positive Soundscapes hosted Designing City Soundscapes as part of Architecture Week 2007 (20 June 2007) at Urbis, Manchester's Museum of the City. The event, held on Wednesday the 20th June, started by taking-in the stunning vista from the sixth floor of Urbis. Dr Mags Adams facilitated this investigation of the city landscape as a series of sensory expectations and contradictions. Participants discussed Manchester's sonic environment from the lofty heights of Urbis' sixth floor, then everyone headed out into the city for a half hour soundwalk tour followed by a light breakfast and further discussion. Download the event invitation here.
Positive Soundscapes was invited to be a part of the Manchester Science Festival 2007 (20-28 October 2007) at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. Visitors to the museum could complete a Favourite Manchester Sounds questionnaire and be placed in a draw to win a free iPod Shuffle.
